Pine Plains United is committed to helping the Town of Pine Plains preserve its rural character as it grows and to protecting it from the adverse effects of unregulated commercial and residential development.

History

Pine Plains United was founded in January 2005 in response to a growing concern about the large-scale development coming to Pine Plains from outside developers. Since that time, we've been working to support the town boards in their effort to represent the interests of the town as expressed by the Town's Comprehensive Plan (PDF document) and the growing public concern.

By informing ourselves, informing the public and voicing our collective concerns, our intention is to have a say in how Pine Plains grows. We supported the Town Board in the formation of the Zoning Commission in March 2005, lobbied for a full environmental study for the Parkview Development, and supported the enactment of the Moratorium on Development in January 2006 to allow the Zoning Commission to complete its work drafting zoning regulations. In addition, we have hired legal and planning consultants to further inform and advise us as we engage the planning process. This includes providing the Planning Board with legal opinions and professional reports as necessary.
